house and other stuff

I really haven't gotten far on the house, contacted a guy to pour the floor for me in the house end of the building, thought it was a go but turns out it wasn't.  :O(  Looking for someone else to do it now.  Just when you think things will be going along in your favor it rains alittle lol    Work has been busy, making some money, paying bills, putting some in the coffee can, getting a few things that I have been needing, generally, life is going along pretty well.  If I could just get things a going on my house....

The cat is not liking the hotter weather, honestly, I am not either!!  rather be up about 9000 ft in the mountains than down here where the heat is..   back to the cat, with the heat comes shedding of cat hair, :O(  vacuumed the floor yesterday and it looks the same today as before I vacuumed.  stupid cat lol   I cleaned the trailer from one end to the other but it doesn't look like it anymore.

Sitting here at the public library, its nice in here.  Air conditioning :O)   going to stay here until they boot me out today lol

got to do some other stuff on here so I will talk later to you all :O)   Be safe.

update

This was the last snow we had this spring, believe it was on may the 4th maybe.  was a record setter for around here.

This is my nephew and his wife, we were testing out the boats. He decided that the flat bottom was not user friendly lol.

this is a old bridge over the Neosho river, don't know when it was built or when it was in use but I can tell you that it was a long time ago.  As you can see, the river no longer flows under it.  In the early 80's a friend and I drove a boat under this bridge while setting bank lines one weekend.

as you can see by the trees growing in the deck of it its been awhile since anyone used it.  In the 90's another friend and I rode our atv's across it. The trees and brush wasn't near that bad.

Nephew in his rented canoe lol  no way was he going to use the flat bottom boat lol

My oldest sister, yes, she was using the dreaded flat bottom lol  tryied to warn her multiple times but she is a hard headed ol gal lol

this is my next to the oldest sister, she rode in my canoe.  she wasn't to sure of it at first but I think she got used to it.  row right side sis  lol

and yes, the river was alittle low!!!   grrrrr.   lol   and yes penny, you were right...... :O)
we only made it about half the distance we wanted too because of how low the river was. by that time we were all wore out and crabby  lol  but it was still a lot of fun. we set up camp but the ticks were horrible.  we all decide to hell with it and loaded back up and came home.  No way were we all going to be tick food.  They were really really bad.

Scared little dog

The other day I was driving over to Manhattan in my work semi when I came around a corner and saw a little black critter running around on the road ahead of me. It didn't act like a rabbit or anything else wild, usually a wild animal will dart across the road without hesitating at all. They are going someplace and not messing around, ex specially when a semi is coming down the road at them.  Anyway, the closer I got to it I realized that it was a little dog on the road.  I slowed down and the closer I got I realized that it was a little bitty dog that almost looked exactly like my little cricket dog...   It was scared and I imagine that it had gotten out and had followed its owner down the drive way or something of that nature.  It was confused and scared out of its wits. I felt so bad for it and scared also that it was going to get hit.  I couldn't stop and help it because there was way too much traffic on the road and it was in a dangerous spot for me to stop.  It looked so much like cricketdog.  I slowed way down and turned on my flashers to warn others that something was going on, the little dog was so scared :O(  I turned my engine brake on in hopes that it would scare it back up the driveway.  I worried about that little dog all day long, at quitting time I drove back that way to see if it was still there or not. It wasn't so hopefully, it made ts way back to its owner.  I hope.  I wish I could have stopped but it just wasn't possible.

Hi :O)

Hey all, hows things been your way?  Its been busy here and weather has been crazy lol  One day its 80 and the next day we have snow and ice.
little bit of ice on the trees

yes, I was driving down the road taking pictures.  thought it would make a cool picture.

My flooded garden spot.  watering it is not a problem when it rains alittle lol  the water from the shed run off into it.

This is the ditch on the north side of my property, its only got water in it when it rains.

All I have been doing mainly is going to work and saving some money. Not really doing much too the place, when I have time off because of the weather, its not good enough (or dry) enough to get a concrete truck in there to pour the floor. And yes, when its dry we are really busy at work.

I'v been doing a lot of thinking lately, not sure what I am going to come up with for a decision but it will be the right one for atleast a while lol  really missing the idea of being back in Colo this summer and exploring places and meeting new people and seeing old friends, looking for that elusive gold nugget or those pretty gem stones, taking pictures of the sights and old mines and equipment.

I am missing it.  hmmmmm, what to do about it.

In other news I saw a fella that I had met last year out there in Colo the other day, he was coming through ks and his way back to Colo.  Was a nice surprise when he called and said he was in town and wanted to say hi.  Visited for a while and helped him out alittle, he was short on money so I bought a item off him.  No, not that lol  it was all legal people..  Geeesh  :O)    He had been back to N.C. to visit his dad who wasn't doing very good health wise.  He was headed back to A.Z. to get the rest of his stuff then heading up to Denver. He shoes horses for dude ranches and also guides horse rides also.  Pretty interesting person to sit around a fire and listen too. Always has a joke or a funny story to tell.  Reminds me of a skinnier Larry the Cable Guy lol
got to go for now, if I get a chance I will post again soon.

Be Safe all  :O)

Hi

Yes I know :O) its been awhile again since I have posted.  I've been busy working (at work)  and trying to get things going on the place but it seems to back fire most of the time lol  I have the floor ready to pour just getting thing lined up and people too volunteer to help is another thing :O)   Got a few but need a couple more just to make sure there are enough in case one or two cant make it at the last moment.
Not a lot has been happening around here, a few late spring snow storms and some thunderstorms also. We really need the rain, The ponds and lakes around here are either dry or very very low.  Matter of a fact, drove by the council grove ks lake the other day and was shocked at just how low it really was. I don't think they can use but maybe one of the many boat ramps on the lake.  Planning on taking a  exploration hike or  the ATVs down to the upper part of the lake and ride around and see the old foundations of the farms that were flooded way back in the day to make the lake. Also there are a couple of bridges that are flooded normally in the lake but not now that we plan on driving too and taking some pictures.   Should be for a fun day of exploring.
Today while driving back from Manhattan as I crossed the Republican river I looked over at the river and saw 4 deer crossing the river.  I wish that I would have had a nice camera and time to pull over to take a picture of it.  Was so cool looking, it was over cast and trying to rain/snow and steam was raising off the river while they walked across in the water.  Would have been a really cool picture I believe :O)   Its been raining and rain/snowing off and on all day.  Finally called it a loss and parked the truck.
Well, not much else to say on here today, sorry :O)  just been pretty uneventful lately.

Oh yea, here are some pictures I have taken lately from around home. This is the old air base that is just a few miles from my place. It was a training base back in the ww 2 days. It was for a long time one of the longest run ways in the united states. It was made extra long just for the training of bomber pilots before they took off for the war over in Europe.   There used to be a lot more buildings, hangers, and anything that you can think of that would of bee associated with a ww 2 air base but sadly, not too much remains today.  Couple of hangers and a few buildings and a lot of run way lol  Part of the run way has been kept up and local pilots still use it
this is one of the two hangers still there, its the smaller one. That is my Honda 650 sitting in front of it.  For some reason I didn't take a picture of the other one.  Duh!

This is the original water tower for the whole place. It was still being used up till a few years ago. the door you see is a full size door.

This is looking down one of the runways, that's looking to the east and if I had took a picture of the view looking west it would have looked identical. The little building in the left had side of the pic is a modern small plane hanger that holds about 8 planes I believe.

We have our very own "The Slabs"  lol  Unfortunalntly its all either privately owned or the city of Herington owns it so no, there are no camping allowed.

Another shot of the many Slabs that are in the area around there.  Many many building used to be here.

Patches my cat resting her head on my lap top charger cord, she likes the heat it gives off when charging lol  I wonder if she is getting any weird "rays" from it ??  lol  wouldn't affect her even if it was :O)  She beyond and "affecting"

Have driven by this giant chicken many times, finally stopped one day and took a picture of it.  Its really quite large actually, big enough that I wouldn't recommend trying to put it in your truck...   LOL   Very tempting I know but no you shouldn't....  :O)

Yes, I was making home made bread again.  No bread machine or mixer for me.  All by hand thank you very much.  I have a kitchen aid mixer but I really don't like using the thing for bread, too messy and takes tooo long lol

Used some of the bread doe to make pigs in the blankets.   Talk about making them better tasting!!!

Okay, I'm done this time :O)  Hope you all like the pictures and the commentary's.

  Be safe all :O)

Hey all :O)

Not allot new to be telling you all actually, started my new job awhile back.  :O(  had to get one, wasn't much of a choice any longer.  Had bills to be paid.  I'm driving a semi again hauling rock sand and anything else that will fit in a end dump trailer.  I used to drive one some years back and getting back into it was like there had never been a 10 year gape lol  same thing just a different year.  Its a good stress free job :O)  That is exactly what I was honestly looking for. All I have to worry about is getting the load there and not running over anyone. Allot of hours though, get up around 5 am and don't get home usually until around 6 pm  or 7 pm.  Working on getting my nest egg built back up and moving forward on my place now with money coming in on a steady bases.    So this summer there will not be any grand tales of gold or mountains :O(  just the everyday musings of a employed person :O)    But with any luck I will be able to go to Arizona or some where else that has a mild winter climate :O)    At least for a short visit.   really wanted to take a 2 week break this summer and fly to Nome and see the operations up there but not sure that is going to pan out.   Have to wait and see.
I really don't have much to relate to you all in what all I have been doing, my Nephew and I replaced a bunch of hedge posts around the city park. Got done with that project just the other day.  Been going to the Gpaa Wichita gold prospectors chapter meetings,  Been baking some home made bread off and on, went and got some bricks out of a old building that was collapsing for some land scaping projects,  Went to a  gun show the other day, talk about high prices!!  whew,  even if I had the money to spend I wouldn't be buying things at them prices....     We did buy some stuff that blows up when you shoot it :O)  pretty neat stuff.  lol  sure makes alot of small pieces out of a ice chest cooler lol  and a small snow man sitting on top of it lol  had to be there to appreciate it lol  small package with a BIG BOOM!!!
I believe that there are some steel grain bins that I can get to move onto my place, they will make for some great storage and make one of them into a lil slaughter house.  Will be handy to have that when it comes time to process deer, chicken's, beef, pigs you name it.  Costs way too much to take it to town to have it done.  Raise it, butcher it, eat it, compost it lol   would that be The circle of life???  lol    Its taking time but things are coming together at my place. just takes time and money.
Going to be pouring the concrete floor here very soon, going to have to wait for the ground to dry up after this snow melts but soon I will have  afloor :O)  Then that way I can stock pile building materials and build on it at any time.  will be taking pics as I go along (when I remember to take them) .  The floor is going to be  apretty physical job.  Hope all my help shows up when I get ready to do it.
Anyway, not sure when i will be back on again to catch you all up but I will be back again :O)
                       Be safe :O)

Como Colorado house

sorry that I haven't been posting regularly on here, just been busy with other things. Like trying to keep ahead of the bill collectors from my kidney stone episode.  Its all working out so far and I do believe that I have a inside track to a full time job.  Keeping my fingers crossed for Tuesday.

This place is in the little town of Como, not allot there, a few houses, a post office, a restaurant that serves pretty good food.  Other assorted buildings, some with some really cool history. One was a brothel house.
I was sitting there in the middle of the street taking these pictures when a car pulled up and a women got out and asked me if she could help me. I told her no, I was just taking a picture and she said it was her house and she wanted to know if I wanted to see inside it as well.  It was even more cool inside with all the stuff that they had collected thru the years.  If you zoom in on the pics you will see all sorts of things hanging from the walls lol Very interesting place to see and they do not mind people just stopping by.

I will work on posting more soon all.  Be safe :O)
